Many are told that the exposure and experience gained from working for free will lead to bigger and better opportunities down the line, but this is often not the case. In addition to the exploitation of unpaid labor, many performers are also subjected to subpar working conditions, including unsafe sets, lack of access to healthcare and other benefits, and inadequate breaks. This is unacceptable and goes against basic worker's rights. It is time for the performing arts industry to prioritize the well-being and fair treatment of its workers. This includes providing fair wages, safe and healthy working environments, and access to benefits such as healthcare and retirement plans. The argument that the industry cannot afford to pay its workers fair wages is a flawed one. Major productions, such as Broadway shows and Hollywood films, generate millions in profits, yet the workers who bring these productions to life often struggle to make ends meet. It is time for the industry to recognize the value and contributions of its performers and provide them with the fair compensation and treatment they deserve. In conclusion, it is essential that the performing arts industry prioritize the fair treatment and proper wages of its workers.
